A blog devoted to sharing the journeys of my heart

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness, For His name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Psalm 23

Super Moon... the moon that is super

I love the sky. A clear blue sky rejuvenates my heart. The sound and smell of rain relaxes me. White puffy clouds make me smile, and looking at the stars calms my heart... sometimes I wonder why I wasn't an astronaut or a meteorologist... (confession... for three straight years a local meteorologist came and spoke to my 4th grade class... it was always kinda more for me than for my class.)
One of my favorite, it could be THE favorite, things about the sky is a full moon. Looking at the moon reminds me how small I am, yet how important I am to God. I love the way it lights up the whole sky. And then when there are stars too... it just seems enchanting and romantic. Another thing I love is when you can see the moon in the morning with the sun. I just think that is the coolest thing...

A while back the moon was not only full, but it was also the closest it has been to earth in 20 years. Did you see it? Meteorologists say that the moon appeared 30% brighter and 14% bigger that night. And boy, it was BEAUTIFUL! (It seemed like someone lassoed the moon and brought it closer... Bruce Almighty anyone?) I was lucky to be driving back to Kentucky from Indiana that night and was able to look at the moon the entire time driving. I tried to take a picture at one point, but it didn't turn out well. So here is a picture someone else took.

Wow, is all I can say...

I'm not gonna lie, it kinda melts my heart!

Free tip: You know the phrase "Food is the way to my heart?" Well, the sky is the way to my heart. :)

What's your favorite thing about the sky? Moon? Stars? Clouds? Sunset?

Blast from the Past: Volume 2

As I said in my earlier post, I have been looking through some old pictures and things. I came across this too. If you recall, a while back I posted a music video made by an awesome group of women with an appearance by Sandi Patty. This 2nd blast from the past is dedicated to my dear friends Hannah and Noelle. "Yes. No." :) haha!

*This was a project I did in college. circa 2004... it is dorky. I'll admit it. I just like the yes and no part. :)

26 and silly

I was flipping through some older pictures this morning and came across these. A few months back, some friends and I went to the pumpkin patch. It was one of the most fun times I had all year. We had great conversations and FILLED the afternoon laughing and being silly. One of my friends has a camera that takes a series of pictures every 2 seconds... We thought this would be funny, which, come'on, it is...

But, yes... I am 26 years old. :)

these are a few of my favorite things

Flowers on tables and smells of clean laundry
Chick-Fil-A fries, sports and the derby
Belly laughs from nowhere that karaoke brings!
These are a few of my favorite things!

When my students bite!
When lonely pains sting!
When I'm feeling lazy
I simply recall a few of my favorite things...
And then I don't feel so crazy!

M&M pretzels and joy caught in photos
A blanket, a book, and an afternoon doze
Windows down with a song of praise to sing!
These are a few of my favorite things!

When my students bite!
When lonely pains sting!
When I'm feeling lazy
I simply recall a few of my favorite things...
And then I don't feel so crazy!

Long walks on beaches and sunkissed faces
Cowboy boots and playing catch in fun places
Swept kitchen floors with a sink full of nothing
These are a few of my favorite things!

When my students bite!
When lonely pains sting!
When I'm feeling lazy
I simply recall a few of my favorite things...
And then I don't feel so crazy!

A Spring Morning

I woke up this morning and walked into the kitchen. I had a perfect moment with Spring! Sun beams were desperately trying to shine through the closed shades and onto the floor. I opened the blinds and the sun danced all over the room. With the windows open, I could hear birds singing their morning songs. A sweet after-a-rain-shower-smell blew into the room. Ahhh... spring is great!

And that is what I was thinking at 8:30 this morning...

Let's move ahead to 9:30am, shall we?

I went for a run around the lil ol' town I live in. (And as we all know, my run means a slow shuffle. Just clarification. I want you to have an accurate picture.) So as I am shuffling with red pounding face up the sidewalk under sweet blossoming trees, I think, "running isn't all that bad on a fresh, spring morning." I look up and see a couple of birds fluttering around a few paces in front of me. And I think again, "Yes, spring makes a grueling exercise pleasant." And when that thought was finished I noticed my shorts were kinda sticking to my leg. I give a slight tug to my shorts and felt something yucky on them. I look down and notice...

BIRD POOP. Yes, the sweet, innocent bird that was fluttering around POOPED ON ME.
I had to laugh... but really? Gross. When I got back home I discovered that the poop wasn't just on my shorts, it had gone through them and it was on my leg too. Again, gross. All those wonderful thoughts of spring I had an hour before... tainted by a happy, oblivious bird. So much for beautiful sunshiney mornings with birds singing and fresh blossoms filling the air with sweet smells...spring shming.

So I must say, that spring was my thing at 8:30 this morning... but since my bird experience, I have been wondering... (sigh) well, I guess it's still pretty great, despite spring pooping on me. :)

Kinda Hilarious...

So when I was say.... 4, maybe, my family got our pictures taken. My uncle had gotten into photography and volunteered to take pictures of my family. So, my sisters and I had group shots (which unfortunately I do not have a copy of this stinkin hilarious photo in my pocession) and individual shots taken. My oldest sister had recently gotten into karate. So she posed in her karate uniform kicking, punching, and doing other various karate things. My other sister was very into gymnastics. She wore her purple and blue leotard (what a gross word) and posed in gymnastics moves - you know, the splits, hands in the air...
I'm sure you're thinking, "Rebecca, what kind of outfit did you dress in?" And that's a great question.
I dressed in this.
My mom tells me I wanted to dress in a lion costume. I don't know what I think about that. There are a few things I love about this photo. In photographs you normally want to see the person. I love that all you see are my pigeon toes, hands, and barely my one eye. And I'm just standing there!!! I could have maybe done a "roar" motion with my hands? Probably the best part though, is that underneath the costume, I know I am smiling.

Oh, I just think it is so funny.
