A blog devoted to sharing the journeys of my heart

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness, For His name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Psalm 23

Gourmet Grilled Cheese

I have to share this with the internet blogging world.

Bacon, Pear, and Raspberry Grilled Cheese
It was a recipe featured on the Pioneer Woman's Tasty Kitchen blog. (which you can get to here)

I made it tonight. It was the best grilled cheese I have ever had. The flavors just blended so amazingly! I was honestly a little sad when I finished the last bite.

Don't deprive yourself of goodness. Make it. It's so delicious.

Bucket List #33. Fulfilled.

Remember this?

Yeah, it's the little bit of heaven that I have been dreaming about. You may have remembered me writing this post about it. And this one too.

Savory and sweet... pretty awesome!

Well, my good friend Nance, decided to give me the birthday meal I've always wanted. (yes, these pictures are from way back in January. I've been a little busy...) She presented me with this homemade goodness on the morning of my birthday.

And of course, this being a wonderful experience, it was documented.

Few Post Donut Bacon Burger Thoughts
1. I'm glad I didn't have an instant heart attack. (But then again, I only ate half of it)
2. Sausage over hamburger might be better. At least for breakfast.
3. A mini donut bacon burger might be a better idea. A whole one is just a little too big.
4. I'd eat it again.
5. And already have it planned for July 2012 Paschal family beach trip with my brother-in-law.  I'm already dreaming about it. :)

(Please excuse the I-just-rolled-out-of-bed look and groggy voice. It was a little early)

not just another picture

How many pictures have we all seen of the devastation in Joplin? Or pictures of Japan from the aftermath of the tsunami?

They're awful. Unfathomable. Heart wrenching. Unreal.

Yet, it's so easy to look over the pictures and talk about how sad it is. Listen to the victims share their stories. Pray for them and send toothpaste and crayons.

Then weeks later, forget.

Maybe not you... but that's me at least. Unfortunately, it's easy to do if it doesn't directly impact me.

Hopefully this time it will be different. Days before a big storm hit Kentucky, local meteorologists were predicting these storms would hit my city. And hit it hard. National coverage from the weather channel came to broadcast from a local high school. My school system, as well as others around, released school early in anticipation of the storms. I went home, packed my bags, and went to a friend's basement.

And...we barely had a rain shower.

But, about an hour and a half north east of me, this storm system took the lives of husbands, daughters, and friends, and destroyed homes, businesses, and communities. Husbands and wives left their homes in the morning with everything normal. Then came home from work that evening to this...

Main Street, destroyed.

Their homes, gone.

Storage building, with their prized things,

lost.

This church would have been 100 years old in September.

The sanctuary.

No roof. No walls. Gone.

The closest gas station was a few miles down the road.

This little first grade man was writing thank you notes to each person helping clean up his church. :)
Precious.

I was fortunate to be able to go and help with some clean-up over part of my spring break. Seeing the destruction with my own eyes and hearing the stories first hand from the victims... takes this unfathomable, unreal event... into reality. A reality that I hope is permanent, and I never forget.
